What would a convincing accuracy claim include?

A useful validation report identifies the actual device and software, participants, reference method, and error distribution. It should tell you whether the result concerns total body fat, regional estimates, weight, or another output.

A statement about correlation is insufficient on its own. Two methods can rank people similarly while returning systematically different values. Likewise, a claim about repeatability describes how close repeated results are under specified conditions; it does not establish agreement with a reference assessment.

Why can two Evolt reports disagree?

Start by auditing the comparison before interpreting it. Ask the operator whether the same device, profile, scan procedure, and software were used. Record recent food, drink, exercise, and unusual circumstances so the operator has context when assessing a difference.

Follow the provider's preparation instructions rather than deliberately dehydrating or changing your normal medication routine to chase a lower estimate. Evolt's how-to-use page is a starting point; the staff running your appointment should clarify the current procedure and eligibility.

A report's consistency also does not make separate outputs independent. If body-fat percentage, fat mass, and lean mass all shift, check whether they are mathematically connected before treating that as three pieces of evidence.

What should you record between two appointments?

Keep the report itself, including its labels. Avoid copying only the headline score into a note and losing the information needed to compare it later. If an output changes its name or units, resolve that before calculating a difference.

How should you respond to a surprising muscle result?

Ask whether the field represents lean mass, skeletal muscle, a percentage, or a proprietary score. These labels are not interchangeable. Then review whether the result agrees with a longer record of training and other observations.

A hypothetical example makes the problem clear: one scan reports less estimated lean mass after an unusually different preparation day. That alone does not establish that your training caused muscle loss. You need a comparable assessment and relevant context before drawing that conclusion.

Keep consistent progress photos if visual change is one of your goals. They add a record of appearance, but they cannot validate an Evolt percentage or diagnose muscle loss.
